Biography

Her costume designs were seen on Broadway in The Green Bird, directed by Julie Taymor (Tony nomination and Outer Critics Award).  New York theatre credits include Mr. Marmalade, Roundabout Theatre Company; Henry VI at the Public Theatre; Tiny Alice at the Second Stage, and Titus Andronicus, Macbeth, Richard II, Richard III, Henry VI all at The Theatre for a New Audience.

Regional theatre credits include Seascape, Tiny Alice and Richard III at the Hartford Stage, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Shakespeare Theatre, Camille Claudel – a new musical at the Goodspeed Opera House and productions at Center Stage, The Alley Theatre, the Yale Rep, and the Guthrie.

Popular entertainment credits include The Showgirl Must Go On, a Bette Midler concert playing currently at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, and Kiss My Brass, Bette Midler’s international concert tour from 2004. Opera work includes Grendel, directed by Julie Taymor for the Los Angeles Opera and the Lincoln Center Festival in 2007, L’Incoronazione di Poppea, directed by Robert Carsen for the Glyndebourne Opera Festival; Orfee et Eurydice, La Fanciulla del West, L’Etoile, Acis and Galatea, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Paul Bunyan, The Abduction from the Seraglio, and Lizzie Borden all at Glimmerglass/New York City Opera, Carmen and Salsipuedes at the Houston Grand Opera, The Flying Dutchman at Houston Grand Opera and Los Angeles Opera, and Rigoletto at the San Francisco Opera.

She has designed for Opera Theatre of St. Louis, The Minnesota Opera, The Seattle Opera, The Portland Opera, The Florida Grand Opera and the Virginia Opera. International opera includes Tannhäuser for the Tokyo Festival and the Paris Opera, The Queen of Spades at the Bavarian State Opera, Der Schatzgraber at Opera Frankfurt, Salome for the Lithuanian Opera and La Traviata at Tel Aviv Opera.

Constance has collaborated with directors Julie Taymor, Robert Carsen, Tim Albery, Mark Lamos, Ron Daniels, Barry Kyle, Irene Lewis, Karin Coonrod, Marion McClinton, Gabriel Berry, Lillian Garret-Groag, Rhoda Levine, David Alden, Christopher Alden and James Robinson.

In addition to serving as a full time faculty member and the head of Costume Design at NYU, her teaching credits include The Kennedy Center Master Class in collaboration with designer and director Ming Cho Lee. Constance is a recipient of the Irene Sharaff Young Master Award.
