Biography
Has designed scenery throughout the United States. Productions on Broadway of Frozen, Bus Stop, All My Sons, and A View From The Bridge. Off-Broadway productions of Last Easter, Scattergood, Filumena, The Baby Dance, The Entertainer, Candide, The Snow Orchid, Ladyhouse Blues, and others. Long and productive relationships with many regional theatres including Center Stage in Baltimore, Long Wharf Theatre, the Alley Theatre, Seattle Rep, ACT in Seattle, the Globe Theatre in San Diego, the Guthrie Theatre, the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC, Ford’s Theatre, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, and Kansas City Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, among others. Has designed since 1973 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and has been responsible for many productions at the Westport Country Playhouse and the Berkshire Theatre Festival.
Has been a member of the faculties of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, the North Carolina School of the Arts, and Williams College. Has twice received NEA grants as an Associate Artist, has been a participant in the Quadrennial Exhibition of Scenography in Prague, has the won the Murphy Award in Design, and is the 2003 winner of the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Set Design.
